Taller de Adolescentes IMAGINAR= IMAGEN

Do you have fun taking photos? Do you like portraiture? Want to say more about who you are? Looking at famous people and portraits, using cameras, and more, you will create a unique portrait during this 5-day workshop, June 19–June 23, 2017, 10:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. daily.

For teens ages 13 - 15. Applications launched March 31, 2017.

Estudiantes de Imaginar=Imagen, tomando fotos de los retratos en el museo

¡Retratos vivos!

El programa ¡Retratos vivos! les proporciona a los adolescentes de D.C. la oportunidad de trabajar en el museo durante el verano.  El programa se realiza durante un período de seis semanas, por lo general a finales de junio hasta principios de agosto, para adolescentes de 16 - 17 años de edad. Los Embajadores adolescentes aprenden sobre los retratos realizando una investigación acerca de un personaje representado en la colección de la Galería de Retratos, participando en talleres de escritura y teatro con un dramaturgo local, y creando monólogos acerca de sus personajes. Disfrazados para parecerse a los personajes elegidos, interpretan sus discursos frente a los retratos para los visitantes del museo. ¡Este recorrido interactivo verdaderamente trae los retratos a la vida!

Students are selected through a partnership with the Department of Employment Services’ Mayor Marion Barry Summer Youth Employment Program.

Consejo de Adolescentes del Museo

Ever wonder what it might be like to work in a museum? Are you curious about American history or pop culture? Do you have a passion for art? Want to create fun activities for your friends and other area teens? Enjoy working with social media? If you said “yes” to any of these questions, join the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery Teen Museum Council.

TMC is a year-long commitment that meets once a week (September-May) on Wednesdays during the school year. Applications to the program are open to D.C. Metro area teens between the ages of 14 and 18 years old. Teens must be enrolled in high school and be in good standing. Apply by August 25, 2017.

Portrait Pop-Ups

What does our Teen Museum Council have to say about the Portrait Gallery? Join us in an interactive and lively museum program—you might encounter an art activity, a discussion, or a spontaneous conversation. Pick up a program at the F or G Street desks to find out where we will be in the museum.

Paint Ball

The annual Paint Ball, created by the Portrait Gallery’s Teen Museum Council, is a teen-only night at the museum with dancing, food, photo booth, arts and crafts, and many more activities. Teen Museum Council plans this event during the academic year.
